How many gallons Wet /Dry Vac ?
QUESTION: A couple of years ago, I bought 1 gallon Oreck vac at a pawn
shop. This is the little unit with a shoulder strap which sometimes
comes with the floor model. It was great while it lasted - quiet,
strong, light, etc. Used it for dusting furniture, drapes, blinds, and
so forth. Unfortunately, however, the motor went out, and I need a
replacement.
If anyone could recommend an inexpensive replacement for the Oreck ,
choose wet or dry vac .I would be grateful.
ANSWER: Take a look at the 2 Gal. Craftsman wet/dry. This little guys are cheap
and very powerful. Shop Vac makes two that are even smaller. They have a 1 hp 1 gallon
wet dry vac that you can get at WalMart for $25. They make a 1.5 hp 1.1 gallon unit under the brand name "Genie" which you can get for $30 at Home Depot. These vacs are certainly louder than Orecks, but
are more powerful. If you decide not to go the mini-shopvac route, consider the small
Dirt Devil. It, too, has a shoulder strap. We're happy with ours.
It came with a motorized carpet head, and we paid something
like $120, as best I can recall. It's not quiet, but not painfully
loud. Visit the local store that sells janitorial supplies. There are some
brands sold only to this trade that are good quality and reasonably
priced. Plus they may even have a used unit for sale.
