Questions about 12 Gal Wet Dry Vac
QUESTION: I need some help in buying a shop vac/wet-dry vac. The last one I bought was
a 12 gallon Craftsman about 6-7 years ago and it's so loud it hurts my ears.
It still works fine but I'm dumping it on a relative. I was considering
another Craftsman thinking maybe they're a little more quiet now and I was
fairly satisfied with the first vac. I remember some brand with an extra
quiet label (QVP?). I'm most interested in durability, noise level, and
suction power (in that order). I don't care about nifty gadgets or
attachments.
I'm looking to spend $50-100. Any great advice or brands/models to steer away
from?
ANSWER: I put my Sear's shop vac in semi-retirement and bought a Shop Vac QSP
at Costco. Much quieter and is holding up well. The factory
supplied filter is a joke, but you can replace it with a good
cartridge. If there's a CleanStream filter for the QSP like the Rigid/Sear's vacs,
then terrific! They filter to .3 microns *alomst* as good as a HEPA
I bought the ear-muff style "hearing protectors" for when I use my
monster-vac (Sear's 16 gal). Yes, it's loud but it's strong and
doesn't waste my time when cleaning.
