is there a pretty good 12v wet/dry shop vac that could be used to
clean up at the end of the day?
QUESTION: I just purchased a suntracker 21' party barge which has the aluminum
deck. the lake that the pontoon will be moored at has a sand beach
so will have to deal with the problem of sand on the carpet. just
wondering how everyone else handles this problem. is there a pretty
good 12v wet/dry shop vac that could be used to clean up at the end of
the day?
ANSWER: Ignore it and maybe it'll go away. Seriously, at the end of the day,
everything will be wet, so you probably won't be able to do much except
hose it down. For ANY boat, I'd suggest a decent wet/dry vac. You should
be able to pick one up at Home Depot or Lowe's. Useful for all kinds of
things, including vacuuming sand from carpet when dry. The only handheld, battery powered vacuum I ever had that was worth anything
was a Kirby. We trailer a 19' bowrider. During the summer, I just ignore the
sand, because we beach the boat and keep tracking in more sand - it isn't
worth my time to worry about. When I'm bored, or at the end of ski seasxon,
I vacuum it with our home vacuum and a Dustbuster. Winter time is fishing
time, no beaching - no sand! Any 9 volt rechargeable Dustbuster will work on 12 volts. Cut the charger
off and put a cigarette lighter male plug on it. The added voltage will
help it pick up better, although it may not work on sand.
