Need advices about size and Hp for 6 Gal wet/dry vac
QUESTION: Buying 6 Gal wet/dry vac for small workshop. Anyone want to give some input on
size and/or HP?
ANSWER: I've got a 10 yr old Genie. It's so loud that it drowns out the routah. If
you like pissing off the neighbors, this is the vac for you. You asked for it, so my recommendation is Ridgid WD1730. They could have the
right to call it "powerhouse". I bought it about a month ago and glad I have
it. I bought one of the new yellow Shop Vac QSP Pro models, a 6.25 hp with
18 gal tank. The thing is super quiet compared to any other vac I've
heard, and comes with 1.xx" and 2.xx" hose widths with lots of
attachments that ride along in a bucket on the side of the vac.
The 6hp is a joke, but it really does suck -- and thats good! First, forget the HP ratings- they're pure BS. I'd suggest you get one
that'll hold at least 10 gal of debris. And have a muffled exhaust, like
the ShopVac QSP.
And, be able to use one of the Clean Stream gore-tex filters. Only because
those filters trap fines that pass right through OEM filters, and take way
longer to clog up with the fines they trap. Great stuff.
One of your main challenges will be to find hoses with the connector sizes
you need. I routinely use 4 different sizes at the tool end, and still have
to use duct-tape to connect to the P-C 6" ROS.
