Looking for 6-8 Gallon Wet Dry Vac
QUESTION: I am looking for a shop vac(wet / dry Vac) as well. I am considering a Craftsman
5HP (I assume Peak HP) for $99. There seem to be a variety of 6-8 gallon 1.25HP units for $25-$35.
Opinions anyone?
ANSWER: I have a small shop vac that works o'k, but I borrowed a friends
craftsman 5HP shop vac when I was doing some remodeling. Tearing down
plaster walls. If you keep the filter clean that thing will suck up
chunks of plaster 1 in^3. It really made clean up much easier. It also
sucks up drywall dust very well. I wish I had one While the 5 "peck" HP rating is rather bogus, it's plenty powerful
to guzzle up any mess wet or dry. I too used mine to suck up
plaster dust, dry attic dust as well as a leaking diskwasher.
It all slid through that 2.5" diameter hose
into the 16 gallon bucket with no problem!
Almost nothing escapes it! Even socks gets snagged through the
floor nozzle. I've seen many of the "Shop Vac' brand vacs
in the trash, but never a Sear's wet/dry vac.
Only once did I see one being sold second hand.
It seems folks just hold onto them and use them forever.
