Bosch Vacuum Cleaner

QUESTION:

I've been trying to decide which vacuum cleaner to purchase. I've come across several I'm interested in but I found a good deal on a Bosch canister vacuum although I can't find much info about it on the web. Has anyone used or heard about these vacs? Thanks.

ANSWER:

maybe so, maybe not. My wife just bought a Dyson DC07. On the plus side, it does seem to do a better job cleaning than our old Regina. The powered "animal head", or whatever they call it, really does an excellent job of getting cat hair out of things. The power cord is is LONG - it's nice to be able to plug in the hallway, and not have to keep moving the cord around. The hose is also more than long enough to park the vacuum at the bottom of a flight of stairs and extend it to the top. But there a couple a minuses; The thing is REALLY heavy, and *much* harder to push than our old one. The construction, is, shall we say, akin to the cheapest, crappiest bit of plastic doodad that has ever come out of the Pacific Rim. It's almost as if they intended the thing to look as cheap as possible. And they've made some astoundingly stupid design decisions - for example, the release handle for the canister is very easy to hit while carrying the thing. Ever wonder what it feels like to have 20 pounds of vacuum hit your feet from a foot in the air? With the DC07, you can find out. In terms of ergonomics, the thing has buttons, catches, releases, etc EVERYWHERE - and the only one that's labled is the power switch. I couldn't believe it, but I had to read the entire manual before using it - for a vacuum cleaners, that's a little ridiculous.
It really is too bad, though. The vacuum, as such, works very nicely, but I really have to wonder how long it will last before all of the cheap plastic is going to start breaking. Considering that the price is way, way at the top end, already, I can't imagine that using a better quality plastic would have made much difference in the final cost
