Vacuum cleaners with a HEPA filter-Where to buy
QUESTION: I want to buy some vacuum cleaners with a HEPA filter in it. I want ones
suitable for use in my house. It would therefore be nice if it would take
attachments like a powered rug cleaner head. The units I have been able to
locate so far are for use in semiconductor clean rooms and are not so well
suited for home use. Can anyone tell me where I can get a HEPA vacuum for my
house?
I want it because I have lead paint in the house and it is not practical to
remove it all.
Thanks,
ANSWER: The company that makes the Vitamix Juicer also makes a vacuum cleaner
that has a HEPA filter, as well as a couple of other filters. I was
seriously thinking of buying but haven't yet (money factor). From their
literature they sent me, the vacuum looks impressive. You can find a
Vitamix Ad in just about any of the vegitarian mags on the newsstand,
then call them for their vacuum cleaner info. If you buy one, let me
know if it is worth the price. Sears now sells several models with HEPA filters. Miela sells an
expensive model ($500+), as do several other companies.
A company called "Allergy Control" sells several types of HEPA vacuum
cleaners. I don't have their number at home -- you can call toll-free
information or find them on Yahoo.
I recently bought Miele vacuum cleaner (White Star) with a HEPA
filter. Although made in Germany, they are widely distributed in the USA. I saw one last week for $275, I think, at Shoppers Advantage. It's a
buying service on Compuserve, and possibly too on the internet. If you
need more information email me healt...@ix.netcom.com, and I'll get
you details. Does anyone know if they're on the NET? Please Post.
