Can you rec a good canister vacum?
QUESTION: After 22 yrs of use, my Sears canister vacum has died. Anyone have a
similar type they love? Consumer Reports lists a Dirt Devil Breeze
Power Pak for $130. Any opinions? This vac will not get too much use - just cars, boat, but very little inhouse use. Got an upright too.
ANSWER: Comparing some products is tough. $130 sounds like a lot of money
for a vac doing utility jobs. I have an off-brand "shop vac" given
to me over 20 years ago, and it simply refuses to die after all
these years of abuse. And I hate it--it is noisy and I always
need to use a grounded extension cord. But, the debris tank is
plastic and can be easily washed and hosed off. A crevice
attachment and a long hose is important. Shop vacs are great
because they can pick up liquids and wet material. Every home owner
should have one. I like the little 2 gallon Stinger shop vac you can get at
any Home Depot for about $30. It is smaller than average
shop vacs, it is hand held with no wheels. It uses standard size
attachments rather than shop vac size. Like a shop vac it does
wet and dry and the hose can attach to the exhaust so that it
acts like a blower. Cheap and functional.

I have two. One for nasty stuff and one for doing computers and electronics:
