Canister Vacuum Reviews site
QUESTION: I just put together a new AMD system with a 1900+ and put the Thermalright
SK-6 heatsink (which is all copper) and fan on it. Very nice construction.
While I'm sure this is a top end heatsink and fan for *serious* cooling, it
also sounds like a miniature canister vacuum while it's running. It's really
loud. I've owned lots of PCs and never heard a fan this loud. It's loud.
What to do. What to do. I'm not dying to replace the fan since I'd have to
jerk the whole motherboard out to do it. :-( Here are my questions and
options: - I got a fan that came with my 1900+. I could put that in. Comments? - Is there something I could add to my case that would help deaden the noise?
An acoustic strip to the inside of the case or something along this lines? - I noticed that the Thermaltake Dragon Orb3+ looks like similar quality to
the Thermalright SK-6 but has 2 speeds. The top speed is 7000rpm and the
lessor speed is 4000rpm. Would the 4000rpm work okay? How noisy is that?
Any recommends/ reviews ?Thank for your help
ANSWER: Zalman has an entire line of noise suppression fans, etc. I am using a
Zalman CNPS -3100 Plus, or "Gold Flower" because of its unusual design.
Zalman's website seems to be down right now, but check out the various
overclocking sites for reviews, such as
http://www.overclockers.com/articles350/. I am using one, not to overclock,
but to almost eliminate the noise on a Tbird 1200, and keep the heat down
around 38-41.
