QUESTION: Has anyone ever installed or used a central house vacuum?
The local Electrolux salesman is trying to sell us one based on less
noise, somewhat better suction and less particulates put back in the
house. It seems like the right thing to do.
Anyone?
ANSWER: so did my mother, turned it on once, 32 years ago. perhaps they have
improved the technology but there seems to be a lot of static electricity
built up in the systems i have seen I've had one for ten years and have been quite pleased with it. Be sure it
exhausts outdoors rather than into a garage. Ideally, it should be plumbed
using 45 degree elbows wherever possible rather than 90's so it doesn't stop
up. Stopups have only happened twice to me and both were fairly easy to
unclog. I have never had one but, in the March 2001 edition of *Fine
Homebuilding"...tips and techniques section...someone wrote a short article
about the subject. He/she had installed several over the years, thought they
were great. He also wrote that he plumbed the central vac tubing system
normally, but used a powerful shop vac instead of a standard central vac unit.
