Problem with Central Vac Hoses

QUESTION:

OK i dont know if anyone here can help me about vacuum hoses, but im looking for some ideas on my 95 Golf the air pump for my central vac locking has died once again (this is already my second one) now that I know there might be a problem somewhere else other than the pump itself I need to track this problem down. when the weather gets better and I have the time I will follow the wire leads to see if there is a problem, I also will look and see how the key activates the pump if the problem is at the doors.
oh ya... each pump seems to have a 3-4 month life, so something seems to be burning up the motor in them (and no the pump does not stay on all the time)
Anyone have any ideas of were to look?

ANSWER:

Check the system voltage ie: Battery voltage with car running if greater than ~14 Volts your regulator could be shot. In the driver's door below the latch mechanism there is a rubber access plug. Pull the plug and expose the switch activation assembly. If the switch is bad it could go resistive and be sending current to the vacuum motor, low enough that the motor won't run but high enough to ruin the motor windings.
