QUESTION: Please help me with some more questions.
I have never used central vacum before. In my dealing with the sales
person, they sometimes give me the plan, saying there is a central
vacum rough-in. I guess this means the pipes? Do I need to install a
central vacum machine somewhere? How much is it on the market? Is it
that efficient to have a central vacum system?
ANSWER: If you have a question about what they are saying then asking them is
the best way to figure out what they mean. Rough-in might be anything
from having the pipes to having nothing but lines on the drawing where
they say "vacuum goes here".
You don't need to install a central vac if you don't want one. Many
people seem to like them though. They have some advantages over normal
vacs in that there is only one canister to empty, that canister is in
the garage typically and any dust or dirt which goes through the filter
gets blown out into the garage or wherever it vents.
I can't give you prices but you might look to see how many outlets there
are. I've seen some designs where they only have one or two outlets for
an entire home and that seems like it will make the hoses very cumbersome
to me.
