discussion about central vacuum hose sock

QUESTION:

I've seen some discussion about central vacuums, but opinions seem to vary. Some people really like them, others regret having them and wouldn't install in a new home. One of the negatives seems to be the length of hose to drag around and the potential for scraping walls, but with a hose sock wall damage shouldn't be an issue should it? Some think having a bag is important, others think bagless is the only way to go. I don't understand one comment suggesting that cyclonic (bagless) systems were not a good idea with pet hair. Perhaps the concern was if the vacuum was venting back into house, rather than being located outside.
Are there any resources for comparative reviews?
Does anyone have any opinions about VacuFlo? I haven't seen it mentioned as much as some of the other brands. The place that is quoting for us is strongly in favor of Vacuflo, although they also sell others. They said that the only system they like with a filter bag is Beam - which is a brand I've seen mentioned a couple of times - but that for most situations the Vacuflo is much better.
Opinions? Suggestions?

ANSWER:

We didn't get the vacuflow because the beater head is vacuum powered by the vacuum. No matter how you cut it, powering the beater with the air flow instead of the motor has to cut down on air flow. So, we got the Silent Master from MD manufacturing, oversized it for our house, put in lots of vac outlets and vac pans, used the supervalves exclusively
(power and vac connection in one connector), and couldn't be happier. You can sometimes mix and match beater heads from different manufacturers, so you can probably find a vacuflow guy who would install a motorized beater head with a vacuflow canister.
I have had both bag and bagless types. I liked the bagless better, but only because I need to buy filters now that I did not before. I would not have a house with out one As for pet hair, I have no idea what they are talking about. A rather high percentage of what I pick up is pet hair and both have been great at getting it and neither has had any problems with it. I would rather have the hose than a wire, and all the hardware on the end of the wire. I also really like being able to vent all it outside so even the very fine dust does not end up back in the house.
