Miele compact canister vacuum cleaner (Flamenco 2 model)
QUESTION: I am considering purchasing a Miele compact canister vacuum cleaner (Flamenco 2 model).
Has anyone had any experience w/ Miele vacuum's? Is it worth the higher
price compared to a comparable Eureka or Kenmore? Any reliability problems?
Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
ANSWER: We just moved here from Holland, where Miele is very popular. Although
I'm not familiar with the model you describe, the one I used to have in
Holland was far superior to anything I've seen around here for a comparable
price (around US$250). Very quiet, nicely designed, compact, and
powerful.
Interesting thing I've noticed: although most appliances, electronics
etc. are much cheaper in the U.S., models which are popular in Europe
tend to be of higher quality. This is true, for example, of washing
machines and dishwashers. A typical Dutch washing machine takes about
an hour and fifteen minutes to complete a wash program, and the results
are definitely superior. They are much cheaper there. There are many different models
available, prices range from about 400-700 Dutch guilders which
would be US$250-450 at current exchange rates. Of course they
all run at 230 Volts, which is why I couldn't take mine with
me when I moved over here. Now I'm stuck with a lousy, noisy
Kenmore.
However, I bought a better car than I ever had in Holland at
about 60% of what it would have cost me there. But I guess
you really want a vacuum cleaner.
