QUESTION: Sorry to start another Dy**n tread.
While staying at a friends house I managed to spill a pile of Laser
Tonor on their spare room carpet.
They had a nice (?) shiny new Dyson, but I had heard lots of warnings
about Laser Toner ruining Vacum Cleaners. I spoke to Ricoh (Toner
manufacturer) and to Dyson, but while both were fairly shure it would
be ok to vacum it, neither could guarantee it.
Does anybody here have the definitive answer?
ANSWER: I don't think it would have damaged it, but it seems likely you would
have ended up with a Dyson, finely coated inside with toner, which may
have been a bit of a bugger.
I think it would have done a good job at picking it up though, the final
filtration in ours seems to trap all but the v.v. finest dust - plaster
dust is an excellent way to block the filter quickly. The second filter
seems to get hardly anything. Toner will, for the most part, go straight through normal
vacuum cleaner bags/filters, and exhaust straight into the
air. I can't imagine a cyclone would be very effective on
dropping out such small particles either.
It is not good to breath it.
