QUESTION: Anybody here actually try this new Dyson vacuum cleaner I see
advertised? is it hype, or really some nifty kind of new machine? And
is this guy related to Freeman Dyson?
I heard that Electro-lux vacuums are still being sold, but
their only sold by special order. They are expensive, but are supposed
to be better than most other vacuums. Anybody familiar wth this brand?
ANSWER: Back when I was a super, I had one of mine at the shop, something about the
motor. The guy who had the shop, he had various filter queens and kirbys around
the store, so I figured I'd ask him what was the best vacuum you could buy.
He pointed to a fairly tatty looking upright. Apparently it was a commercial
model, but what made it better than others wasn't it had a more powerful motor,
or a cyclonic whosis, but simply it had a chain instead of a belt, and more of
the little gears were made of metal. I had an electrolux, it's ok, not great, but the best vaccuum to get is
still a central vac system. The reason being, you have a powerful motor
downstairs somewhere in the canister, instead of lugging it around behind
you in the unit itself. The cleaning capability is awesome.
I had a central vac for years and years, when I moved and lost the central
vac, no stand alone vac ever measured up. And I tried them all. I finally
settled for a Kirby, it's good, cleans well, but the bags and belts are
expensive. It was much beter than the Elextrolux, the Rainbow, the Hoover,
the "incredible cyclone machine",
