Electrolux Oxygen cannister vacuum in Sears
QUESTION: i currently use a wet/dry shopvac for house cleaning, but it's
a bit of a PITA to haul up & down stairs.
i also have one of those Oreck uprights, which needs a new
drive belt. i've had it for 10 years & really hate the thing,
even moreso now that i don't have any carpets. it just doesn't
work on hard floors & it has no attachments for doing anything
else.
and i have a Dust Devil upright thing that does have
attachments but is so wimpy that it's pretty much useless,
which is why i use the shopvac.
i was looking at the Electrolux Oxygen cannister vac in Sears
the other day & the sales guy suggested i might want to look
at the Dyson Animal. he says it's good at getting pet hair up & i do have 2 large (100lb & 80lb) long coated dogs, plus 6
indoor only cats. but, it's an upright. i have had zero luck
getting an upright to work well on the ceramic tile in the
kitchen *or* the wide pine (with gaps up to 1/4" that catch
crap) & i'm pretty suspicious about how well the attachments
actually work on furniture.
anyone have one of these & what do you think? is it any less
of a PITA to drag up & down stairs than a shopvac? anyone have
an Oxygen that's willing to comment? i'm getting tired of
wading through pet hair.
ANSWER: What didn't you like about the Electrolux canister? Personally, I love
cansiter vacumns. I have 90% hardwood floors and really like the
flexibility. It's probably just my preference, but I feel that with a
cansiter you can get into all the nooks and crannys better than with an
upright. I have the Kenmore progressive with the self-propelled
motorized head and have no complaints. Gets up our dog hair jus fine
and It's not all that bad to go up and down stairs. It has a little
"step" underneath that kind of props it on the stairs. Good attachments
and a mini power head which is excellent for carpeted stairs.
I'm still using it.
