Electrolux Vacuum is sick
QUESTION: I just came from my friendly Electrolux vacuum cleaner person, who
delivered the bad news that my vacuum's motor is burned out because I
didn't use OEM Electrolux filters and debris, etc. was sucked into the
motor, put a strain on it and ruined it. Cost to repair: $130 for repair
of the armiture, or $160 for a new motor.
Hardly seems worth spending that kind of money on a 14 year old vacuum.
Anyone know of anyplace in the NYC/Westchester/Danbury area where I can
get a used or remanufactured Electrolux?
ANSWER: This may be a scam. Debris under the brushes (electrical contacts) can look
like a burned motor. If you don't trust the repairperson, you might get a
second opinion. I kept my old electrolux running for over 25 years and I never used
their over priced bags. I did notice it had better suction with their
bags, but I never ruined anything. You probably just need new
brushes. I had to replace these a couple of times. It's an easy job,
if you in the least mechanical, if not then I would take it somewhere
else and get another opinion.
