Toward Hayden (Supervac) Central Vacuum
QUESTION: Hi! Sorry if this is not the proper NG, but I could not find any info on
the net or other NGs that seem appropriate. Anyways, I'm in the process
of shopping for a central vacuum and was wondering if anyone knows where
I can find info that compares/rates the different brands of central
vacuums? Also, I would be interested in any personal recommendations or
brands that I should avoid altogether. So far, I'm leaning towards (in
order of price) a Beam, Hayden (Supervac) or Vacuflo. Obviously, I want
the best system for the best price - i.e. I would go for the higher
priced ones if the benefits and performance are warranted.
ANSWER: Have you considered calling up a few local residential contracting firms
and asking which models they prefer? The same goes for local builders'
suppliers, possibly even local home retailers like Home Depot. To briefly repeat my earlier postings here, I have had three different
central vac systems in the last three houses. I've installed two of them.
The best by a fair margin is Vacuflo (I have the 560 model). The
vacuum-powered rug tool is excellent. Central vacs with auxiliary electric
power cords are a nuisance. As others have noted, if you install the wall
outlets (really inlets!) upside down, i.e., with hinge at the bottom, they
are easier to use. Floor outlets work well and can make the installation
much easier.
