Hepa Canister Vacuum Cleaners

QUESTION:

I have Kenmore Whispertone (with Hepa Filtration) canister vacuum cleaner. Bought it for my sister in August 2001 (so 5 1/2 years ago) but she NEVER used it and I used it whenever I visted her form out of town. (She went and got an upright one). I took it 2 1/2 years ago when I moved here. I bought this canister one as I had a similar one and the reason being lighter than the upright ones. (I do hear slef-propellant ones but I am not beliwver ..yet.) But I want something lighter than this one with the same capabilty. I think it is 12 amp if nor more.
The most important thing for me is to keep the place clean as I am sensitive due to reasons other than allergies. My place doesn't get dirty but I need to as clean as possible environment.
I thought about Oreck but for the price, it doesn't seems to be that great according to what I read in this ng. I seriously need something lighter as I vacuum weekly and it is so laborious for me to do that with what I currently have though I love the performance of theis Kenmore Whispertone (with Hepa Filtration) canister vacuum cleaner. Any ideas for me ?

ANSWER:

Have you looked into a Roomba? They work well for automated general vacuuming. It won't replace your hand on the stick, but it will cut way back on the time you spend doing it. The unit is quieter than a regular vacuum and does pick up quite a bit of stuff. You could have it set to clean continuously if that's your thing.
Consumer Reports just rated vacuum cleaners. Check it out at the library. If getting an upright I would go self propelled. I've had one for years with no problems.
