I am about to replace my vacuum cleaner for the third time in almost
12 years. I would like to purchase something with a HEPA filter that
will last a good while. I have four young children so vacuuming
occurs at least once a day. I would prefer not to purchase a Hoover
vacuum as I have already had two that could not hold up to much of
anything.

Try looking here for lots of good info on vacuums:

I bought a Miele and a Lindhaus. Both are superb vacuums. Have you considered having a built-in unit installed? The advantage
to such a unit is that the exhaust (after being filtered for dirt) can
be ducted outside- eliminating the need for a HEPA filter. Another
advantage is that the built-in units are quieter and also usually have
more power than the push types.
