New riding lawn mover with bagger or Wheel Horse with a 3hp vacum to bag the grass.

QUESTION:

We have 2 acres and would like to buy a new riding lawn mover with bagger. We are think about a Husqvarna YT150H (15 hp) or a John Deere LT155 (15hp). We have also looked at the Kubota T1460 and T1560, but found the price alot higher.
I'm current running a very old Wheel Horse with a 3hp vacum to bag the grass. Both of these tractor don't ave a power assist for bagger, do they bag okay?

ANSWER:

I've been looking around this year at mowers and over all other brands I've seen (including Honda, Husqvarna and those available at depot-style stores) I really prefer the John Deere LT series for the money. I've been running a 8hp JD rider for over 18 years now and it's still going great. (Of course, there has been maintenance... new engine block, rear differential etc - but there is NO problem getting parts. All replacements I've had have actually been developed further -- and better -- from the original design.) I'm not sure about other brands, but in addition to the standard bagger the LTxxx series has a blower bagger option that takes it's power off the mowing deck. Higher models have actual engined options.
If Husquvarna riding mowers are made by the same company as the walk-behind mowers, then you are comparing a brand like Sears with John Deere
(Husquvarna walk-behind mowers are mde by AYP). After nearly 9 years of working on riding equipment, from machines made for Sears, MTD riders, Honda, Toro, John Deere, and many others, the John Deere machines are one of the best made. I remember my days of working at Sears in the lawn and garden service department, and making fun of John Deeres and the mechanics that worked on them. After finally having worked in a shop of a John Deere dealer, I felt kind of dumb after having made fun of them. There is no comparison quality-wise. The other things to take into consideration is parts and service availability. You can guarantee that there is a John Deere dealer about anywhere you may go. Hope this information helps out.
