Vacuum cleaner : Dyson versus Miele

QUESTION:

Does anybody know where to find information on the Miele vacuum cleaner which is supposed to be better the Dyson ? I cannot find anything on Internet.
I live in France and apparently nobody has heard anything about a Miele one.
Thanks for your help

ANSWER:

If you were a UK subscriber to Which? OnLine ( operated for the UK Consumers' Association) you'd be able to access their reports on vacuum cleaners. IIRC the Miele does well, which was one reason I bought one three years ago. The other reason was that the Miele can be fitted with an exhaust filter to remove microscopic particles which produce allergic reactions - and I've found a noticeable improvement in my (allergic) asthma as a result. Which? found the Dyson quite good, but (IIRC) noisy, and emptying it without generating mess and getting yourself dusty was not simple (because it has no dust bag).
Miele do a range of cleaners. I'd recommend getting one with the adjustable length hose attachment, unless all potential users are the same height and find the fixed-length rigid hose ideal. Also, if any potential user has a minor disability such as arthritis, some models have a speed/power control operated by a sliding rather than a rotary control, and this can be pushed with a foot. We're very satisfied with our Miele.
