Problem with Nutone central vacuum system
QUESTION: Does anyone have a suggestion for implementing a cleanout in a Nutone
central vacuum system. We are having frequent problems with blockages
caused by plastic "peanuts" that fall to the floor when unpacking boxes
and are then vacuumed up. The source won't go away soon so I'd like to
put a cleanout in the vacuum run in the basement to make my life easier.
ANSWER: As I understand it, it's standard plastic pipe. I'd cut it at a
convenient spot and install a cleanout. Be sure to angle the cleanout
to go with the flow.
It sounds to me like someone installed some fittings in backwards.
As for clean outs, I guess it would depend on exactly where it is
blocking. An additional outlet at that point should offer access.
