Rigid Wet/Dry vac for my shop

QUESTION:

I am using a Rigid Wet/Dry vac for my shop. It works great and has plenty of power (6.25hp). But the filter does clog up fairly quickly. If I cut a hole in the wall of my shop and vent it outside, would there be any problem just leaving the filter out entirely? Im assuming that alot of dust would go outside, but not any large chips?

ANSWER:

Not all air going into the intake goes out the exhaust, some of that air that is filtered might be used to cool the vac motor. If you take off the filter, part of the intake airstream will pass by your motor(clogging it up) and back into the air of your shop. To test your vac just blow some cigar smoke(or fine powder) into the intake and see if some does, in fact, pass by the motor. With my Crapsman shop vac, removing the filter blows all sorts of dust past the motor and back into the air.
