"Sharp" Vacuum ,are they good?
QUESTION: Has anyone had any experience with Sharp Vacuum Cleaners?
Good or Bad?
ANSWER: We just received a Sharp 2607 yesterday via mail order and already vacuumed the whole
house with it. The vacuum is very strong and very well may be able to suck start a
Harley Davidson! Sharp makes several models with the same motor and perfomance but with
different options. Ours has the metal handle, beater bar and bottom plate and also has
the hepa type filter. The real test for dust in our house is to vacuum the carpet under
and around our two litter boxes. With our old Hoover it blew so much of the dust in the
air it smelled like I was in the litter box. The Sharp's exhaust is very clean with no
dust or odor emitted (noticeable by me anyway). I would recommend the Sharps based on
performance, but you may want to shop around as the discount store Sharps are the all
plastic variety. The next step up is the Sharp Pure Power line that has metal handles,
beater bar and bottom plate and also the following options: dust bag full indicator,
beater bar on/off switch, variable power control, 14" wide vacuum width, hepa type
filtration, various length cords and on-board tools. Good luck and if you'd like to
know where I mail ordered the vacuum from drop me an e-mail. Based on the one I own (about 1 year old)...
Plusses: - does a great job - easy to push - relatively quiet - conversion to hose+tools is as easy as it could possibly be; it
automatically holds the beater bar off the floor
Minuses: - built-in hose is too short to be of much use and easily knocks over the
vacuum cleaner (buy a separate hose kit!) - emits a faint odor of overheated rubber; this is apparently normal for
the brand; I have opened it up and see no signs of any damage from it - cord is too short; it barely stretches across my living room - hose winding posts rather close together so you have to do a lot of winding
Also, I regret buying a low-end model with no suction control and no
attempt at a full bad indicator (they're rarely accurate but are better
than nothing). As an engineer I tend to be a minimalist (Keep It Simple,
Stupid), but I went overboard this time!
I'd recommend Sharp for anyone not very sensitive to odors. Personally
I'll probably go Panasonic next time; my old Panasonic was harder to push
and had a less powerful motor, but I loved it. Design details such as cord
length and hose attachment seemed better.
