Vacuum cleaners: Dyson vs Simplicity
QUESTION: We're tired of $200 vacuum cleaners that last only 1-2 years. We're
ready to shell out the $400-$500 for a good one.
I've been reading about Dyson. They seem good from the reviews.
Our friend tells us that Simplicity is the only way to go, but I
haven't found much in the way of reviews or reports.
Anyone have insight on either of these brands?
ANSWER: We're considering the Dyson DC07 Low Reach versus the Simplicity
Synergy.
Simplicity might be manufactured by the same company as Riccar (www.riccar.com) because they share bags. I've had Riccar's
top-of-the-line model (8955) which local store sold me for $350 about
18 months ago and I couldn't be happier! Not only is it a great
vacuum, but it also comes with an amazing 5 year warranty and free
annual maintenance during the first 3 years. During this maintenance
they replace the HEPA and another filter, clean and lube everything,
etc.
If you're interested in these vacuums, don't pay any attention to
MSRP. It's $649 on the vacuum I got for $350, for example.
Dyson is JUNK! Accroding to Consumer Reports it performs no better
than crap like Hoover. I would suggest you go to Consumer Reports and signup for their web site. I
have two Orecks one I purchased from QVC, and the other a commerical model
from a company in Texas. I knows Orecks are not rated high by CR, but work
fine for me.
You probably can find a great cleaner for about $200-300.
