Need vacuum to the auto-stick control valve
QUESTION: The new carb I bought only has one open vacuum port on the top (looking
straight at the carb). The vacuum port to the right is capped off. My old
carb has two ports on top. The one on the left goes to the dizzy vacuum unit
and the one on the right goes to the auto-stick control valve.
I need vacuum to the auto-stick control valve. According to my Haynes
manual, the auto-stick vacuum needs to come from above the carb throttle
plate. What do I do to get vacuum to the control valve? Can I just split the
vacuum line on the left? I'm so confused.
ANSWER: It looks like the port should be in the back and, as you said,
above the throttle. It shows it as being slightly above the
highest point of the arc that the throttle plate moves in.
It would appear that you can just drill a hole all the way
thru the casting, into the venturi. Then press-fit a tube in the
hole. Don't drill thru any of the cast ribs as these have
passages inside.
You can not use the vacuum port for the distributor. This port
gets vacuum from below the throttle, or at least the throttle uncovers
the opening.
The hole you drill won't be critical; the control valve just wants
to know whether the throttle is closed or open
