QUESTION: Hi, about 3 years have past since I last wrote here or worked on my laser, I
stoped because I couldnt get a vacum pump for my n2 laser. now I finnaly
found one.
Problem: There are 3 wires, red black white. Im guessing i connect the red
and black to my 115v outlet. what is the white wire for?
this is a regular air conditioning compressor.
ANSWER: Not being fully awake at the moment, I wouldn't believe anything I
tell you. See the Laser FAQ, first chapter on amateur laser construction.
You should have saved the other components that went with the compressor.
One terminal is for starting. It should be labeled on the compressor itself -
Start, Run, Common, or something along those lines. But I'd guess with those
colors you're looking at 208 3-phase.
I think you should get some sleep. If it's a domestic A/C or fridge
compressor, the three wires are for Common (Neutral), Start, and Run.
Not sure which is S or R though based on the colors.
