Not Wet Dry Vac Hepa ?

QUESTION:

How small are dust mites and their allergins. Also house dust. I will be buying a vacuum for the furniture so need some advice.
There is a Wet/Dry vacuum that says 99.7 % of particles at .3 microns- Does not say hepa.. Looks like shop vac. Price 29.95.
Excalibur vaccum HEPA 99.7% .03 microns. Price 349.95. A oval shped unit that has attached hose.
Nilfisk UPLA Vacuum . 99.999% at .12 microns. Price 519.95. Pricey.
I am reading out of the Allergy and Asthma Guide 1-800-621-5545.
Any suggestions or suppliers would be grand.

ANSWER:

There is a big difference between 99.7% and 99.97% at .3 microns. The
99.97% filtering down to .3 microns meets the HEPA standard and is required to vac dust mites and their droppings. The non-HEPA machine probably will not get you there. Obviously, you have to trade off cost for effectiveness. It might be worthing trying the cheaper machine and see how you feel. If you are not getting the results you want, move up to the more expensive machine.
